Are atheists really this stupid?

God exist proved scientificly - Beliefnet Forums: "Quote:
"My point is that we, humanity, will not progress, will not mature, will not coalesce, will not care for all, until we move away from religions and other dividing god beliefs."
I am not sure that all of humanity is ready to move away from religions and god beliefs. Some may be (and of course we will lead the way into the golden future [/sarcasm]) but others may need other paths to follow."

It is good to consider the thoughts of others of high awareness but they can only take us so far.

If you put a frog in a box with a lid, the frog will attempt to jump out. After so many attempts of hitting the top of the box the frog eventually gives up. You can then remove the lid and the frog will never attempt to jump out again.

What must be done, and what will be done is to continue to write your own scripture. You can build on the foundation of past wise thought and experience but unless we are transcending what has gone before us, we are stuck in mediocrity and conventional thinking. We have allowed someone or something else to define our reality.

Its as if theism relies on atheism or it would have no purpose. Its as if atheism depends on theism or it would have no existence. Both of these boxes must be pushed to the extreme so that the sides blow out and the concepts, from both perspectives, are transcended and discarded as past points of reflection. [Beingofone]

I don't think either should be a box, which was my original point. As long as an atheist is reacting to religion hesh will not mature coalesce nor care for all. I am comfortable without God in my life, but I don't need to fight those that are not or denigrate their beliefs. Those that are dysfunctional will sink of their own weight. Yes, they will carry some unfortunate people with them but evolution is not about preserving the unfit.

Beingofone is going in an entirely different direction that reminds me of Carlos Castenada in my youth. I had hoped that I would live to see the inherent value of a Humanist/Secular/Atheist society, overwhelm at least those clinging to fundamentalist doctrines of all types. I have learned that the motivations for religious practice are rooted within the deep psychological needs of the adherents; they will not easily "let them go" until they are convinced that a life of free thought is preferable to the rigid structure that props them up and chains their minds.

It may be that most religious people will never be ready for a life of free thought. Free thought is a scary concept for people that may go through their life with nary a thought about meaning in life other than preparing to meet God in the afterlife. This may not prevent them from being intelligent and productive members of their society and in the secular area they are not held back by the rigid structure that props them up and chains their minds. I know some that claim that the rigid structure frees up their minds in the secular area. Obviously hard fundies won't fit in this picture, But fundies are a diminishing if noisy segment of Christianity.

You are so correct. I am confronted daily with the fact that the large majority of my family and clan are lifelong AoG adherents, missionaries and ministers. The censored version of the tribute they received was 2/3 the length of the uncensored version; although, unbeknownst to the matriarchal censor, my sister-in-law secretly insisted on receiving the "full-meal-deal." [There is hope, yet.]
